In the Trust Works! parable after the dog has shown ability and believability to establish trust, the emphasis switches so that the cat then has to connect with the dog. It is noted that trust is a two-way street otherwise “the fighting is bound to start up again.” This surprised me when reading. Why did the authors not have the dog continue with the Connection communication process? What if the work toward trusting building is not reciprocated? Is it essential to the Trust Model to switch the focus to the cat needing to build trust also?
I am an international professor at a university in Korea and will be using the ABCD Trust Model with a small group of students this Fall. The book is spot on for foundational issues in relationships in diverse situations. I have also purchased the book for my two sons and their wives. Responses to my question will be greatly appreciated.
