Throughout his years as an author, business guru, and motivational speaker, Ken Blanchard has affected thousands of people in many different ways. Individuals have made important life choices based on Ken’s advice, or an introduction from Ken. Organizational leaders have taken his leadership principles as a way to change the trajectory of their organizations’ futures and their own leadership journey.
We hear about these stories often, and we would like your help collecting them.
As you may know, May 6 is Ken’s birthday. We’d like your help in giving him a gift that would carry the most meaning: Share your stories of how Ken has changed your life.
It can be short or long. All we ask is that you tell it from the heart. Please leave your story in the comments section below, and we will be presenting the entire list to Ken at his birthday celebration here at the company. Thank you for all your help, and don’t hold back, Ken will surely appreciate it!

Ken Blanchard continues to change me! His absolute clarity about simplifying what effective leaders do helps me be both a better influencer and a better facilitator.
Much love to you, Ken, on this special day!
Cheers!

Key,
Happy Birthday! I think there are two places you have really influenced my work life..
First – You have given me a rich understanding of the need to celebrate each individual success a person achieves.. Inspired by you, one example is I created a tradition of giving a Ken Blanchard autographed book to each of my leadership program graduates..
Second – After 25 years of studing and teaching leadership, I finally moved to creating my own view of the foundations of leadership.. inspired by your writing.. I decided I need to follow your leadership and while the book is not done or even considered for publishing.. the result was the creation of a series of leadership workshops that have helped grow Mitchen.Inc into a great company..
I hope you have a wonderful birthday and enjoy the love of those close to as they celebrate your gifts! Mitch
Happy Birthday Ken,
And thank you for taking a chance on me and giving me the opportunity to join you and all the others in your special organization. I love everything you have done to create such a wonderful culture, one that values learning and doing by role modeling, as well as teaching others. I love that you know who you are, that you share your wisdom with us every day, and that you appreciate each of us for who we are too.
From your raving fan, Captain Betsy
Happy Birthday, Ken! I knew that there was a reason that I felt a close bond with you, and that is that our birthdays are only 1 day apart – May 6 and May 7! No wonder we share so many perspectives! We are practically twins! ;D
I send you my prayers for continued blessings on you and your work, Ken – particularly your work in “Lead Like Jesus” as well as in all your other endeavors.
God bless you and yours!
Dave Lyons
Thank you for sharing with us your years of practical knowledge.
MOST importantly, for sharing you love for & belief in our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ.
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday – we both share May birthdays! You continue to inspire me on a daily basis which allows me to inspire others.
Happy Birthday Ken,
I have been a fan of yours for more years than I care to mention. You have inspiried me to be what I consider a good leader and I have tried to pay it forward my entire professional life.
One of my personal goals in life was to meet you in person but I am so happy to be able to wish you a happy birthday personally.
Whale Done!
Diane
Happy Birthday Ken. You are truly a servant leader who teaches constantly by walking the walk. Ken, you have influenced my life so greately and in such a positive way. You have taught me the mark of a true leader is to be humble. Leadership is an honor. When you’re leading, it’s not about you as a leader but rather the individual you are growing/influencing. You taught me not to think less of myself but rather, of myself less. And that life is truly a special occasion – enjoy each and every day and to focus on accentuating positive. You have also taught me that the more you give, the more you get in return. YOU are simply the best Ken. You’re the real deal. Thank you for being such an inspiration to so many and for your beautiful, beautiful energy and simple truths that make such a difference in our world. Love Leigh
Happy Birthday Ken! I knew there was a reason I felt so connected to you – my birthday is May 8th! Over the years, you have done some much to help influence both me personally and the company I work for. Most recently I have had the best “Blanchard Year” ever! Not only was I able to attend the Summit for the first time this year, I was also able to host you here in Ottawa, Canada for your visit in November. You did so much that day for the leaders of my company – and on behalf of all of them – I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Much health and happiness,
Alana Palmer
Hi, Ken:
I am delighted to be a coach for The Ken Blanchard Companies. Thank you for the opportunity to share your teachings with all of my Blanchard clients and in effect, change the way they do business in their organizations.
I have enjoyed every client and every session gives me another opportunity to connect and share knowledge.
Happy Birthday and may you enjoy many more!
Pattie
Happy Birthday Ken! I read The One-Minute Manager when I was around 13 or 14 years old. It was part of my fathers library and had been out for only 3 or 4 years at the time. The idea I always remembered was that of catching someone doing something right. And years later it is something I still use as a guiding principle. Keep on doing what you do! Thank you! Jonathan
Situational Leadership II – took this during the first six months of becoming a supervisor. Five years later I realize how much I have used these tools and see your influence in my happy and productive team. You made a difference – Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! I attribute my personal and professional growth through learning several of the Blanchard models. As a trainer in these models I have developed the ability to listen and teach others while advocating for myself. But most of all I have been able to apply this in my everyday life as a framework for problem solving, providing customer service and building relationships. Thanks so much!
Kim
Happy Birthday, Ken! What a wonderful idea and opportunity to share a heartfelt message. From the moment I was first exposed to your writings and teachings, I have been a committed ‘Blanchardite’! You have blessed so many with your engaging and curious spirit, living leadership to the fullest extent. I love it whenever I can be around you and others from the Blanchard family. I have an especially fond memory of sitting with my wonderful friend, Sue Zlatin, while you read ‘Whale Done, Little One’. It was truly a magical moment. Have a wonderful Birthday celebration — throughout the year! Jane
Ken- I have been calling our sponsors from the recent Geneva College Serving Leaders Conference where you and Margie presented. The feedback is overwhelming on how your sessions on values, whale done, and becoming a serving leader has touch numerous businesses in the Pittsburgh area. You are treasure for the learning and development field and your legacy will live on for many years to come!
All the best on this, your special day…although, I strongly suspect that you make every day special.
Thank you,
Tom
Ken,
Happy Birthday from the “Sweetest Place on Earth”….Hershey, PA
It has been 33 years since we first met and it has been a great run! Along the ride I have discovered that so few people have the opportunity to call an icon in their profession a friend, a mentor, and a coach! I am blessed to say that Ken Blanchard has been there for me in each of those dimensions. It is hard to put into words the impact you have had on me both professionally as well as personally. I think one of my favorite poems will capture our relationship over all these years.
I dedicate this poem to you…
A Coach’s Influence
adapted from Grant Teaff
I dreamed a dream,
but I had my doubts.
“You can do it,” Ken said.
“I’ll teach you how.”
I tired and I tired,
he said I should.
I gave it my best,
Ken knew I would.
Lessons taught
on the filed of strife,
Have been invaluable,
as I’ve faced life.
When challenges
come my way,
I always think,
what would Ken say?
His inspiring words
I hear even now
“You can do it.”
“I taught you how.”
Now , others dream,
and have their doubts.
I say, “You can do it,
I’ll teach you how”.
The influence continues
THERE IS NO TIME!!!!!
Love ya Buddy….
Paul Kreider
Ken, happy birthday from Brasil ! I learnt a strong and consistent message from your ASTD 2010 session with Colleen Barrett – Bring love to leadership – Alll we need is love!!! We lead people that have heart and feelings.
Ana
Happy Birthday Ken.
Thank you for the great lessons shared in your books and in person. My first conversation with you was while I was attending a public workshop (1992). I had just read Managing By Values and was so excited to discuss it with you. I walked away from our conversation with the idea that values were the core of a great leader. Your words that day, helped me to build a plan that has produced a fun and rewarding career as a leader. Thanks Ken, you are a great teacher.
Ken is the most spiritual, kind and loving person that I´ve met in my life. His humbleness, his positive attitude and humanity have inspired me and changed my life vision.
I have enjoyed all the moments that we’ve shared, and now, I’m delighted and grateful to be part of the Ken Blanchard Companies group.
Happy Birthday and God Bless you!
Patricia Medina (Venezuela)
Happy Birthday Ken! I read your first book in 1982, “The One Minute Manager” and have been a fan ever since then. Being certified in SLII, LPTC & DISC programs I have been able to help people to grow and develop into better leaders and individuals. Your books and programs have made a HUGE difference in my life raising my bar as a L&D professional. Thank you for your vision to build this company, which has had an impact globally. Your staff and associates have world class customer service and your company is my favorite one to work with. If I can ever be of service to you, just call. Wishing you all the best! Joyce Wietrecki
Happy Birthday Ken! Your story about Shamu made me re-think my expectations for my teenagers and realize that I needed to slowly raise the rope and reinforce positive progress. I also use the SLII model in parenting. Thank you for your stories and your models! Kristi
WOW – where do I start I have been following Ken since 1990 when an employee for a large telecommunications company here in Overland Park and starting to take Situational Leadership I as well as other courses. Last year I finished my Ken Blanchard Executive MBA at Gran Canyon University. I have also participated in many webinars that have been offered. He has made me a better leader as well as follower and a better employee because of all his contributions and in particular “Helping People Win at Work”.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Ken – may you have many more and God Bless for all you have contributed to all our lives.
Ken,
Your Gung Ho story inspired the Central Regional Team and soon the entire Pharmacists Mutual Company implemented the Gung Ho philosophy. Happy Birthday and may the spirit be with you. Gung Ho friend!
Best regards,
Tom Goodrich
Happy Birthday Ken,
When I came itno America 10 years ago: I bought “the One minute manger,” as one of the first 5 books on excellence in business i bought from a thrift store.
your book became my foundational approach to management and business excellence!
You approach the deep subject of management with the simplicity of miiddleschool. It is not the Complexity of the mechanism but the simplicity of utility that moves people! You have weel accomplished that.
You are to Management What Bill graham was to the Gospel In America.
We met At St. Stephens Church When doing The Simulcast for the LEAD LIKE JESUS BOOK.
I mention your name to every young person I mentor!
I am now working on a project which will make yours and other teachings readily available to the masses to bump national productivity and employment growth.
thank you
GOD GIVE YOU MORE HEALTHY YEARS
hannington
Happy Birthday, Ken!
Your pragmatic, practical servant leadership philosophy and for life has dramatically changed the way I view my role as CEO. Thank you and have a great birthday!
I had the honour of caddying for Ken and his wife on the Old Course at St Andrews a few years ago. We had a ball and some very good golf was played by them both. Over a year later, I received a call from the Secretary of my Golf Club in St Andrews to say that a package had arrived for me. It turned out be a copy of Ken’s latest book and he had taken the trouble to inscribe it with some very nice words, dedicated to me. It is these sort of touches which make a great man great. Ken, Happy Birthday and let me know when you’re next in St Andrews!
Orrabest!
Malcolm M. Mitchell.
Dear Ken:
You came to surprise the American Heart Association’s Heart for Leadership class at the Airlee Conference Center in Warrenton Virginia 9 years ago. As a gift to me, the graduates asked that you write a letter to me affirming my place in the world as someone who has been called to help leaders lead. You treated me to dinner when I was in San Diego at SLII training along with some friends of yours from Willow Creek. You asked me about “my story” and then you shared your faith journey with me. Ever since that special time, I too ask people about their story and I am amazed at the gift we can give others as we listen generously to their hearts. You have and continue to inspire me as I live out my calling. Since that time, I have moved on to build a leadership development practice and have been blessed to walk alongside individuals who have been called to lead. Thank you my dear mentor for what you have done to shape what I bring to this world. I appreciate you. I applaud you. May God bless you abundantly and give you more than you can ever ask or imagine. In Christ, Jan Bazow Richmond Virginia
After that experience, I have since gone on to build a leadership development practice. Over the past 5 years, I have often spoke of you and how you have been a mentor to me.You wrote me an awesome letter that the graduates presented to me.
Happy birthday, Ken!
You have taught me what it means to “get your ego out of the way”; the importance of “catching people doing something right”; and that life is not about a distribution curve – we should all be able to get “A’s”.” You have taught me this not just by what you say, but by who you are and how you live your life. I grateful for your friendship. Love, Jesse
Happy Birthday, Ken!
From the first time I discovered your books twenty-odd years ago, to the amazing hugs I receive from you after our meetings today, and all the insights and discoveries in between…you have given me permission – and set the example – to live my passion and Lead with LUV! :^D
It may be your birthday, but YOU are the gift!
(((hugs to you!)))
With LUV…and Love!
Jeannel
Happy Birthday Ken!
Thanks for wisdom, guidance and humility you have exemplified throuout your life and career. Your impact has made me a better leader – and more importantly – better husband, father, friend and human being.
SLII and Values Based Leadership have been the foundation of our organization in the two-plus decades since you first worked with us. Your legacy resonates in the hearts and minds of so many leaders, who have learned that the real question is not “What are you doing, but “Who are you becoming”.
I attribute much of my success as a leader and consultant to the powerful concepts you’ve developed, as well as the determined, peaceful and consistent and graceful manner in which you have conveyed them.
All the best to you and your family.
All the best!
Happy Birthday Ken!
Your whole philosophy on servant leadership and Situational Leadership II has made a big and positive impact at the company where I work.
Meeting you was very inspirational for me. You have really made a difference to so many … Thank you Ken!
Dear Ken,
It has been an honor and a privilege to spend the last eight years employed by this wonderful organization that bears your name, and more importantly, is modeled in your image. The fact that I’m still here after eight years is a testament in itself to the impact you’ve had on my life.
You see, I had never lasted much longer than a couple of years with any previous employer. I was beginning to accept that would be the norm for me. Then “you” came along. The difference in being here as compared to being with previous employers was night and day. I quickly learned where things had gone astray for me in the past. Needless to say, it was a huge relief to learn there wasn’t something wrong with me!
But, getting to actually know you, the person, the real deal, was a game changer. My first office job was with a company that also was named after its founder. When you saw him in the building, you kept your head down and didn’t speak unless spoken to. But when I see YOU in the building, not only is it permissable to say hello and engage you in conversation, it’s expected…along with a hug! (Of course, that’s assuming you haven’t already initiated contact before I’ve even had the chance to.)
In the time that I’ve been here, we’ve shared a lot of good times, as well as some bad times. You’ve approached them all with an unsurpassed level of grace, class, and dignity that never failed to leave me in awe.
Thank you for being you, and for inspiring me to be the best me that I can be.
And most importantly, Happy Birthday to YOU!
With much love and respect,
Adam
Happy Birthday Great Leader:
I don’t know how to express my gratitude about your inspirational e-books, audio books, books, and how these are changing my life. I would only like to share one of the most important: I was a little worry about how my relationship was going on with my chief, and thinking about my future. I was coming back from Europe to Lima in 2005 after a working meeting in Zurich. Staying waiting for my flight in Schipol airport, I was visiting one of the bookstores, suddenly I saw the new book “The 8th Habit; from effectiveness to Greatness”, When I started to read I remember the most important I found: we choose between the mediocrity and the greatness, I realized that I was living the first one.
Life is not easy, but for sure now I’m trying to choose every time according to principles and being responsible for my decisions.
Thanks a lot Stephen.
Dear Ken: Wishing you a very special birthday!! You have definitely played a key part in shaping my life both professionally and personally. I was introduced to you and your “leadership difference” when I joined a major financial company that leverages many of your best practices and processes from situational leadership to ethical management to servant leadership. And with that introduction, my view of leadership has forever been changed and continues to be reshaped by the work you and your company bring to life! Thank you for leading by example and I pray God’s continued favor in all you do!
Happy Birthday Ken. You changed my life with the many introductions, the leadership style you possess, the Gung Ho attitude, and the lesson of Servant Leadership. I recognize others and value all contributions big and small and promote random acts of kindness by speaking about them. I have had many experiences that have been enhanced due to all the wonderful knowledge Ken has provided during Key Note Speaking engagements, dinners, lunches and his blessings are truly a gift from God. Happy Birthday and God Bless You. Charlene McLaughlin
Happy Birthday Ken!
Thank you for showing us how to catch others doing things right to help them grow & develop. You’ve inspired me to be my best and as a result, I’m a better person because of your teachings & philosphy. I have reached for the stars and achieved goals following your servant leadership example. Have a wonderful birthday! ~ Joyce
What can I say about the man who has influenced my life. Having the opportunity to spend private time at your home, asking questions about how you view the situations have made a huge impact on my life. Why have I gone thru these situations? I asked. and you answered “because you were meant too. What path should I take? You answered the one that you feel deep inside. Go with your heart. Make an impact in others lives. Live to solve the problems and support your followers. I am now in the John Maxwell Team certification program so I can take the messages around the world. You have been there to inspire, motivate and allow me to own my thoughts and directions. I love you and appreciate all you have done for me and for the world.
What a blessing it’s been to be part of a values-led company. One thing that you’ve taught me is to live according to values rather than reacting to what’s going on in the environment. Thanks so much….and have a wonderful birthday and year!
Wishing you a very BIG Happy Birthday! God showed me that I’m worthwhile but I did not think that I would be able to do anything important. You have helped me shatter those thoughts and I am now pouring my life into others as you have done. Through the leadership styles that you have written about, Servant Leadership, Gung Ho, Leadership by the Book, Lead Like Jesus and many more. We are living those things out as a department and we’re doing some really important things. Thank you very much and may God continue to bless you!
Dear Ken,
Happy Happy Birthday!!!! Wishing you a joyous day! You bring such powerful thoughts that have influenced me towards the leader I am becoming. Thank you for all your continued work, it is greatly appreciated!
Your Situational Leadership model has been a revelation to corporate management training!! Thank you and have a very Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday, Ken! I have followed your work since the One Minute Manager, and have recommended that book to many young people who are preparing to become managers! Most recently, Who Killed Change, the book you authored with my friend Judd Hoekstra and others, has transformed the way I look at the change process and the challenges in implementing a major change. I look forward to following your work for years to come!
Happy Birthday, Mr. Blanchard. Although I’m not a big fan of your work, you have an indirectly impacted my life in a very positive way.
You presented at the 2001 ASTD Conference in Orlando and my colleagues were all very excited to attend your session and prevailed upon me to go with them.
I chose to attend a different session on Trainer Competencies for the 21st Century – the facilitator of that other session is now my husband!
Tears fill my eyes as I consider the impact this one small choice has made in the lives of countless individuals. It is true what they say: you can count the number seeds in an apple, but you can’t count the number of apples in a seed.
Happy Birthday Beloved Ken! Tears fill my eyes as I think of how much I love, adore, and respect you. You are like the father I never had. Your wisdom, humility, kindness, devotion, service, love, and joy are precious gems.
I can hear your words “My best years are yet to come.” Yes, they are Ken. What a privilege to share in your journey. May your humility and heart continue to cross every continent to touch hearts and open minds to Lead Like Jesus.
Big Hug,
Alison
Happy Birthday, Ken!
Oh so many ways you have influenced me, however the core is that business and the love of Christ are meant to be done together!
Happy Birthday Ken! ! !
You and the other authors you work with have helped me to see our work life from a whole person perspective. And assisted me in learning a language to be able to understand this and to teach others also. Your simple stories have made these truths so clear that I have been able to ACT on what I am learning!
Thank you very much Ken. God is blessing me through you and in turn He is blessing others through me – because of you, my friend.

“How Ken Changed Me”
When I met you, Ken, I was the center of my universe–but I didn’t want to be. I wanted to serve others and the greater good–I just didn’t know how.
You showed me how.
For that–and for your wisdom, faith, hope, and constant love–I am eternally grateful. May the ripples of your good works go on and on….
Happy Birthday!
Love,
Martha
Happy Birthday, Ken!
I had the pleasure of hosting you at the Disney Approach to People Management Seminar in Florida in the 90′s. You quickly got the messages of what Disney did right and shared your thoughts with the attendees. It was great to see such an impactful thought leader appreciate what we did there. Thanks for being such a great human being!
Steve
Happy Birthday Ken!
My journey with you started when I read “We are the Beloved”, a gift for your children, how greatful I am to them for sharing the gift with the rest of us.
You have enlightned me, empowered me, valued me and helped me to be a better listener, coach, leader, facilitator and person. Your graciousness, compassion and genuine care for those around you spills over in ways you may not even realize.
I am honored to have spent time learning from your grace, wisdom, teachings, spirit and passion.
Happy Birthday!
Blessings…Mary Anne
Happy Birthday Ken! Thank you for all the gifts you have given to so many- books, seminars, workshops and most important~ your inspiration and wisdom.
It is a privilege and honor to be certified to facilitate your workshops and create future leaders.

The Minute Manager book I bought years ago, and the Don Shula story deeply affected me. Since then, I’m enrolled in Grand Canyon University in Entrepreneurial Business.
God Bless & Happy Birthday! You have been a blessing while on earth.
MANY HAPPY RETURNS OF THE DAY
Met Ken about 11 years ago. Ted Nace had asked me to come down to Crystal City for the Guidepost Conference with Ken leading a servant leadership conference. I had just came into the Hotel when I ran into these too people Margie and Ken. Ken said to me I hope we’re going in the right direction and I had no idea where I was going but I felt if we kept walking we run into everyone else…. He looked a little familiar since I had remembered the the little article that he and Norman Vincent Peale wrote for PLUS. Oh they did a book too and tape. Well we did run into everyone else. Truet Cathy, Charlie tremendous Jones, Fred Smith, Ruth Stafford Peale. Ken did a fantastic job and taught us about servant leadership and my life changed for the better. He introduced me to Dallas Willard and from then on I have seen the world from aservants perpective.
Had a fantastic Bible study with Margie and Ken that day and I am better for meeting those two who God put in my path. Thanks. Chris
The very best to you as you celebrate your birthday.
About 9 years ago I was introduced to Ken’s writing – High Five & Gung Ho by a lecturer while pursuing the MBA through Phoenix University. Since then I have used every chance to purchase and read a book written by Ken, to attend Webinars offered by him, as well as share the information given when possible.
You have broadened many times over my knowledge and skills in Leadership, especially Servant Leadership – some of which I practise and really did not realise that it had a name! The books The Servant Leader and Leading with LUV are the newest of resources added to my collection. The Webinar with Ken and Colleen was one of the best I have ever attended and I compliment them both on sharing their knowledge so freely. I have shared the books and their contents with many who are forever grateful. I have learnt so much about myself and continue to practice from suggestions that you give through your writings.
May God continue to bless you and your team as you share your knowledge with others. Thanks for being so generous.
Ken,
Wishes for a Very Happy Birthday Celebration! Your books have changed my life and my leadership especially when I led teams in Ukraine and taught them from “Leading at a Higher Level”. When I had the opportunity to study under you and learn from you personally in the Grand Canyon University EMBA program, you changed another part of my life and enhanced my desire to always keep learning and giving back to others through education. Every day I look forward to learning, coaching, teaching and giving back just as you have done.
May you have many blessings and many more wonderful birthdays in the years to come.
Ken –
Happy Birthday!
Your work has been tremendously positive and helpful. I’ve been fortunate to use your teachings at work, as a Boy Scout leader and in my family.
You have brought the Golden Rule to life in countless human lives.
Thank you and God bless you.
Dear Ken,

Happy Birthday, Ken!
To me, your greatest gift has always been your ability to make complex ideas simple. That, and the foresight to use the power of storytelling to prove your point. Your unwavering belief in the goodness of people has benefited many; because of you (and those who work with you) many workplaces are far more productive and harmonious than they otherwise would be.
Thank you for your continuing commitment to the development of people and the businesses they serve. Your work has improved the llves of many in my organization. I know because our people tell me so. May you have many happy birthdays to celebrate — and books to author — as time goes on.
Ken, happy birthday! I trust it will be a wonderful day for you filled with things you love.
It’s hard to express the many, many ways you’ve changed my life and how i do things. Your books have always been an insp8iration and a learning tool. I will never forget my earliest dealings with your business as I ordered an instructional video to use for a company retreat. I misunderstood a couple of things and it took but one call to clear it up, with only ONE employee, who was awesome, fixed it for me (even though I believed it was my misunderstanding) and left me a raving fan for life. What an example of empowering people to get the job done. Because I had learned so much from you about recognizing eagles in flight, I called back to ask to speak to whoever was in charge of customer service. Imagine my surprise when I was put straight through to your personal voice mail. The next day I got a call from the manager of that area, telling me you had played that recording for the company and recognized that person. I will never forget that.
Your books, seminars, and webinars have made me a better leader. They’ve made me stop and be sure in all I’m doing to recognize people for great service, to empower teams to make decisions, and to always be mindful of being a servant leader. Through that, you have touched not only me, but all of those I’ve worked with and I am very grateful for that.
Happy Birthday, Mr. Blanchard! We’ve never met, but I feel close to you and thank you for the support and insites you’ve given me over a number of years.
You constantly remind me of:
- the potential within all of us
- the need to adhere to ‘basics’ and ‘good foundation material’ as the basis of relationships – whether personal or collegial
- the power of honesty, caring, loving and intensity in relationships
- the ‘goodness’ inherent in each of us and the need to be part of a vision bigger than ourselves
You’ve made a difference to me. Thank you! Love, Kathy Freeman
Happy Birthday Ken – hope you have a wonderful day, month & years ahead.
Situational Leadership II is a passion with me ever since I certified in it. It is such a powerful, simple yet highly effective program – applicable in any sphere of one’s life & it is a privilege to facilitate your workshops . Here’s wishing many more Birthday’s to you
Ken, Happy Birthday! The business world demands all of us to be really competent at what we do, but you taught me that connection is so much more important in life and in leading others. You simply have created a whole new standard of communication that truly magnifies fun, values the human spirit in each of us and creates experiences and memories that only our limbic system can fully grasp. From the time you amazingly introduced me to Coach Shula in October of 1997 (on my first day at work) to the big hug you gave me in October 2006 at the client conference in NYC as I left the company for my next challenge, it was clear that the business of loving life and helping people to become more of themselves, can, indeed, be a special calling and profitable in so many ways as well. And today, we all know, connection is needed more than ever before. Enjoy and God Bless!
Happy Birthday Ken! I wish you many more years of health and happiness.
My father gave me the “One Minute Manager” book when I was 16 yrs old. It started a life long passion of learning about management and leadership. As a manager I strive to follow your principles and to lead my teams like my father did. I know I have a long way to go to be a great manager and leader, but on my journey, I try to help others learn to be a great manager too.
Respectfully,
Brett
I ‘met’ Ken as a young undergraduate at of all places a restaurant. CMR, the owners of Mitchell’s Fish Market, practiced and preached the philosophy of ‘Raving Fans’. I never have nor do I think will again work for a more impactful company. That same philosophy led me to my current position at the Ken Blanchard College of Business as student, mentor, leader, and counselor. Thanks Ken!

Happy Birthday Ken!
You’re always very special and you should know today that you are wished the nicest things that life can bring your way like warm and loving wishes and happiness and cheer and everything you need to start another happy year.
“How did you change me life?” Gosh…how didn’t you? The impact a teacher has continues well beyond the semester, and it’s been 26 years since that UMass class! You demonstrated the connection between developmental theory and great leadership then, and continue to show that now, every day.
Thank you for sharing your authentic joy in people and in learning. What a gift you are! Happy Happy Birthday, Ken.
Love,
Mary Ellen
One of the many things that I love about your teachings Ken is that they are so simple! Really, this isn’t rocket science – these are simple common sense concepts that make people say ‘Why didn’t I think of that?’ That is why it works so well. When we read your materials, we can begin to implement now! One of my favorite books is Whale Done! We put is on the top of the reading list for every client recommending that at a minimum every member of their leadership teams read it. It has helped so many supervisors and managers become better leaders. It has even helped me me to deal with a couple of crazy puppies while maintaining my sanity!!
Thank you and Happy Birthday

Ken, you inspire me every single day…whether I’m having a good or not-so-good day, your daily message w/ the “LIFE is a VERY SPECIAL OCCASSION, DON’T MISS IT” montra always refocuses, inspires, emboldens me. In the fast pace of daily life, it’s easy to lose sight that you must seize every precious and be the difference you want to see in the world…I want to thank you for continually regrounding me in those core principles.
Your life’s work has always been about unleashing the potential and power of people and organizations for the common good…What’s more inspiring than that?????
I’m so blessed to have met you, your family and to work for you and be a part of your wonderful organization!
God bless and happy 60th (??)

Dear Ken,
Happy Birthday my friend. I have respected you greatly since we were “puppies working together at the Air Force Leadership and Management Development Center in 1976. Thanks again for endorsing my books and for all the good you have done in the world lo these many years.
Warmest regards,
Peter A. Land, MS, CSP, CMC, CPCM
Ken, best wishes for a delightful b’day. You have had a profound impact on my life. You spoke at an ASTD conference and told stories about your mom the same week my own mom passed away. Your views touched my heart and have stayed with me over a lifetime.
Happy Birthday!
The newsletters and free webinars have become a very important component of manager training in our organization. Thank you for your generosity in this time of economic challenges. I am always uplifted and motivated to go out and do great things after one of your presentations!
Happy Birthday Ken!
I’m so grateful for our friendship. While most people are trying to figure out what their purpose is, you’re living it by being a loving teacher of simple truths.
Thank you for believing in me and for opening up doors for me to contribute to our great organization and the clients we serve. I’m inspired to give more energy and effort toward the worthwhile work that we do every day.
You have taught me that it’s not about dividing up the pie, it’s about how to make the pie bigger so everyone wins. You’ve taught me to make decisions (especially the tough ones) by my pre-defined values.
In a hectic world, I struggle with being spread too thin and minimizing the impact I can make. You continue to make yourself available and touch the lives of thousands of people in a personal way. You’re a role model in many, many ways!
God bless you,
Judd
Happy Birthday Ken! You have touched my life continually, from the first time (many years ago!) I read One Minute Manager. Reading about “catching people doing it right” has changed how I help people grow. To this day I teach others to watch for people doing it almost right and that enough almost rights eventually get to it being all right. There are many more things I can say about how you have impacted me and helped me be successful but this was probably the first and therefore the most impacting, as I still use it today. Enjoy your birthday and reflecting on how many people and the many ways you have changed others! All the best, Marg
Hi Ken! Happy, happy birthday! My life was changed forever when I walked through the doors of the 125 building for the first time. The culture you and Margie have imbedded into this company is like nothing else I have ever experienced–love and trust and encouragement is all around me, every day. Working this closely with you, being part of your team, would have been inconceivable just a few years ago. I’m so proud and humbled by your belief in me and amazed at what I have been able to accomplish as a result of that kind of unconditional trust. A million thanks for being YOU, Ken, and for always bringing out the best in everyone around you.
LUV, LUV, LUV!
Renee
Happy Birthday Ken! What a great contribution you have made to so many people!! You have a passion for people that is contagious.
I have learned the value of people, how engaging them, nurturing them, serving them and learning from them has helped me become a better leader and a better person. Many principles are taught throughout life that are counter to your teachings – Whale Done, One Minute Manage, SLII, Leading with LUV – and for a long time my leadership style was about me. I have the courage to make it about the people and it is a lot more fun.
Thank you so much – enjoy your birthday and all of these loving wishes!!

About 30 years ago I heard that Ken Blanchard was coming to Toronto for a full day presentation on leadership. Having read and been inspired by his co-authored classic “The One Minute Manager,” I was determined to not miss the opportunity to hear him live. I wanted hear the guy who inspired me and so many to “catch people doing things right,” and I was sure that in hearing him, I would be catching him doing something right.
My employer did not share my enthusiasm, and refused to pay the $300 registration fee. I was undeterred, and continued to look for a way to attend. The best I could manage was to pay my own way, and not lose a day’s pay (this meant that I would have to get my work done before and after the session, as it would still be there in my absence). I took the chance, paid the fee, and hoped it would be worth my time and money.
As so many that know Ken Blanchard can attest, he is and was amazing. I was spellbound for the entire day as he laid out the Situational Leadership model in such a way that was clear, concise and made eminent sense.
But it didn’t end there. Towards the end of his presentation he made a statement that inspired me, and I never forgot. He was at critical part of the presentation, and declared that research shows that 90% of us would do nothing different after the session, but for the 10% of us that would, we should pay special attention.
My first thought was, “You SOB! I paid $300 of my money to be here, and you are telling me that there is a 90% chance I will get nothing out of this!” My second thought was “I’m going to show you,” and for the remainder of the day I was absolutely wired to his every word.
My third thought relative to this incident occurred on my way home. It finally hit me – he did it again! Just as he has inspired millions of people to become better leaders and better human beings, he had inspired me (and I’m sure many others attending that day) with this simple yet profound challenge. I’m sure that Ken inspired well beyond the 10% factor.
That is the essence of what I see in Ken Blanchard. He has the ability to bring out the best in others by inspiring them in ways that people can understand and relate to. Whether it is through a simple story or parable, or through in-depth research, he connects the dots and paints a picture that everyone can appreciate. I continue to admire his work, try to live my own life following so many of his practices, and encourage others to do the same.
Thank you Ken for everything.
Happy birthday Ken. Enjoy this day like no other, because there never will be another day the same as this one.
Ron
Ken,
Happy B-day. I’m a big fan.
I was very fortunate to have both you and Paul Hersey as instructors when I was a student at Ohio University. You both greatly stimulated my interest in management and leadership. The situational model was the one thing that really stuck from from four years at OU.
I have gone on to write several articles and books on managemment and leadership. My latest article is in the Spring issue of The Leader-to Leader Journal.
In my teaching and writing I have reduced your four leadership styles to three–directing, discussing, and delegating. I’d like to get your opinion of teaching managers to focus on these three styles. if you’re interested–my e-mail is PThornton@stcc.edu.
Best wishes. Keep leading and making a difference.
Paul B. Thornton,
Happy Birthday Ken Blanchard.
As an online student, I want to thank you for the tremendous opportunity to receive my Bachelor of Science degree via your degree program. Vital to today’s global business world, I feel that is was a priviledge and honor to start college after so many years, and am now in the MBA program and loving it. Thanks again, and pray that you know how many lives you have touched and changed through your life long dedication. May this birthday be your happiesst yet.
God Bless You,
Bonnie K. Hinsdale
Thanks for the SLII training and the time I spent with you and your lovely wife Margie back in 2000. I have gotten a lot of mileage out of the “Triple-Bottom-Line” concept while training in the auto industry over the last 11 years…
You are a gift Ken.

Dearest Ken,
On the eve of your Birthday, my prayers to the Almighty to bless you with many more years of learning for sharing.
Right from your book with Hersey (Management of Organizational Behaviour), I have been reading all your books and using the concepts and applications in my classes as well as in learning events. I strictly follow the message you give in your books, “to share” what we have learned.
The two “C”s of assessing followers (Competence and Commitment) is so simple but very powerful to reap the benefits in getting the best out of them. Your leadership model based on that is something which no other models have matched – and when I come across some of the other models I try to look how can I fit your model into it and I get more insights.
The way you have shown me on collaboration is great. I wonder how you were able to partner with people from different walks of life, learn from them and develop an insightful book is a great learning for me.
Following the pattern in your One Minute Manager series, I have also started sharing only three points in my sessions. People are able to remember them and feel that they are not overloaded.
Many significant people in my life always get a copy of your book relevant to their role in the organization or life…!
Thanks for sharing all your insights..
With prayers,
Senthil….

Ken,
I have had the privilege of meeting you and hearing you speak at several ASTD conferences. I have read many of your books and given them as gifts to others. The fact that you boldly stand up for your convictions and beliefs is what impresses me most about you. Also that you do what you say. I believe that you are a servant leader. Please keep sharing your faith and your knowledge with us for many years to come. Happy Birthday!
I took a course in Leadership in college in 1999 and the insights of your personality profile and also the kind of leader a One Minute Manager needed to be still helps me here in El Salvador…I just wanted to pray that the Lord richly bless you and yours….Hope to see you come to our School to impact our graduates….You are more than welcomed…..
Your brother in the Lord,
Eric Bosworth
Happy belated birthday! I have the same B-day…1958. Hope yours was as special as was mine. Look forwad to learning and growing with the info you share.
Again happy b-day…and many more!
Happy Belated Birthday Ken!
I didn’t realize your birthday is the day after my mom’s, dad’s and son’s (all May5). Makes sense though because you have had the impact of a wise uncle or grandfather on my life. While I could quote chapter and verse from your leadership programs and stories, and your eulogy for a mutual friend, Ben Brooks, what has impacted me most is your being. When you speak, I hear the voice of a prophet. I am touched, enlightened and always left more at peace when I hear you from afar or am in your presence.
Thanks for all your gifts that I feel so blessed to have received. You continually inspire me to make a difference in the lives of others.
Best to you and Margie during this special month of May.

You have supported me in reinventing myself as person . The knowledge shared by you on your blog is awesome . Some of many complex thoughts explained by you in most simpliest form are unique . Simplicity is about leadership and driving it at all levels needs convictiona and values , that’s what I learned from you . Whale Done and Situtional Leadership are time tested concepts and can support people in transforming themselves .
